MOLINE, Ill. – Augustana fell to 1-1 on the 2021 women's tennis season with a 9-0 loss at the hands of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday, March 13 at the Quad City Tennis Club. The Vikings of veteran head coach
Jon Miedema were coming off a season-opening 7-2 win over Coe a week earlier.
The Warhawks grabbed an early 3-0 lead after the doubles competition and Augustana was unable to gain much momentum during the match.
At number one doubles, senior
Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and sophomore
Lily Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) dropped a hard-fought 8-6 decision to Kasey Schlicht and Sabrina Palavra. The number two team of senior
Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) and freshman
Caitlyn Hanulikova (Ames HS, Ames, Iowa) lost 8-2 to Olivia Kraft and Paige Nierman. Sophomore
Michaela Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) and sophomore
Lauren Oda (Elk Grove HS, Elk Gove Village, Ill.) fell 8-1 to Courtney Day and Molly Rueth at number three.
Hanulikova, at number four singles, stretched Palavra to the limit before losing 5-7; 6-7. Magee dropped a 4-6; 2-6 decision to Kraft at number three singles. Schoeck fell 3-6; 2-6 to Nierman at number two. Oda lost 2-6; 2-6 to Rueth at number five while Bullen went down 1-6; 2-6 to Jesse Merker at number six. Timm lost 2-6; 1-6 to Schlicht at number one.
Augustana's next match will be against Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday, March 20 in Madison, Wisconsin. The starting time for that contest is slated to be 3:00 p.m.
