CHICAGO, Ill. – North Park raced to a 30-8 lead after one quarter Saturday and went on to defeat Augustana 82-55 at the NPU Gymnasium. The Vikings from Rock Island fell to 3-3 on the season and in the CCIW, while the Chicagoland Vikings improved to 6-3 overall and in the league.
North Park's Josie Summerville hit a pair of free throws on the game's opening possession and Augustana's
Gabriela Loiz (Alleman HS, Davenport, Iowa) answered with a layup to forge the only tie of the afternoon. Esther Miller's layup at the 7:20 mark of the first quarter gave NPU a 4-2 lead that it wouldn't relinquish. Miller's bucket sparked a 16-2 run and Lauren Lee's three-pointer eventually gave the hosts a 30-8 advantage after one.
Sinead's Molly's triple with 6:23 left in the second period gave North Park its largest lead of the half at 40-12 and the hosts took a 46-21 edge to the locker room at halftime.
North Park used a 13-2 third-quarter spree to eventually build its lead to 70-32 before
Linnea Johansen's (Parkway South HS, Manchester, Mo.) three-pointer beat the buzzer to make it 70-35 going to the fourth. The margin didn't dip below 30 points in the last period until
Hannah Simmer's (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) conventional three-point play accounted for the final.
Loiz had a team-high 10 points without missing a shot. Kylie Jozwick
(Lakes HS, Lindenhurst, Ill.) added nine. Chantel Hairston led five North Park players in double figures with 14 points.
