ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana women's basketball team (5-3, 0-1) will continue their conference schedule this weekend with a contest against the Carthage Firebirds. Carthage's trip to the Quad Cities will tip off from the Carver Center on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 5:00 P.M.

The Firebirds and Vikings share the same overall record of 5-3 but Carthage has played more games within the league this season as their mark is 2-1 against CCIW foes thus far. Carthage is coming off a 55-42 win over North Park in their last game. Prior to that, the Firebirds dropped a defensive affair at North Central and upset fifth-ranked Wheaton in Kenosha.

Carthage boasts a balanced offensive attack with just one scorer averaging double-digits. Lauren Knight leads that category with 10.4 ppg. The bulk of the Firebirds' scoring comes from six other players that average at least five points per contest. Knight is currently second on the team in three-point shooting percentage at 33%, just behind Ayanna Ester at 36%. Knight also leads Carthage in distribution with 17 assists on the year, good for an average of 2.1 per tilt. Senior forward Kelsey Coshun leads the Firebirds on the boards with 45 total rebounds and an average of 5.6 per game. Bridget Barrett is second in that category with 4.4 per.

Augustana and Carthage share a deep, competitive history between the women's basketball programs. Dating back to the 1914-15 season, Carthage owns a 41-29 advantage over the Vikings. Augie has had the recent success, though, winning two of the last three and the most last played game by a 64-53 score in Rock Island.
