Augie men 4th, women 5th at first indoor track & field meet of season

The Vikings competed at the Frigid Bee Invitational over the weekend at St. Ambrose

DAVENPORT, Iowa. -- The Augustana men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed in their first competition of the 2021-22 season over the weekend, with the men finishing fourth and women fifth at the Frigid Bee Invitational hosted by St. Ambrose.

On the women's side, senior Katrina Krebasch won the high jump after clearing 1.60m in her first outing of the season. Krebasch also took first in the pole vault event at 3.50m. All three top spots of the pole vault were owned by Vikings, with Brooke Ziegenhorn coming in second and Genevieve Berryman in third. Ziegenhorn also notched third place in the triple jump. In the shot put, freshman Heather Michalski earned third place in her first collegiate outing. Her throw of 12.26m gave her a top three standing out of 26 competitors in the event. She also placed eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 12.77m.

Jade Johnson highlighted the Vikings in the running events, earning seventh in the prelims of 60-meter dash before eventually grabbing eighth in the finals. Sara Clapp placed 17th overall out of 40 runners in the 200m. The Vikings as a team placed fifth with a total of 68 points.

For the Augie men, Carson Eipers blew away the competition in the weight throw, winning the event by over three meters with a mark of 17.91m. Teammate Luke Cowan also took fifth. In the shot put, Jack Currie earned second place with a toss of 14.95m, securing that mark on his second-to-last attempt to move him into second. Reid McNeil rounded out the success in the field events with a second place standing in the pole vault, clearing 4.10m.

In the running events, the Vikings place second in the 4x400m relay. The team of Connor McBride, Colin Stapleton, Sylvester Brady, and Eirik Andersen finished with a time of 3:30.73, just two seconds out of first. On an individual level, a total of four Vikings finished in the top ten in the 200m dash, led by McBride in third with a time of 22.85. Ian Rothery (4th), Brady (6th), and Jason Smith (10th) rounded out the efforts for Augie in the event. McBride also earned fourth overall in the 60m dash.

As a team, the Vikings took fourth with a total of 63 points.

Both the men and women will have over a month off before their next meet on January 15 when they compete in the Monmouth Midwest Invitational.
