Viking men finish 3-1 day at Gator Boots Duals

All three Augie victories come in dominant fashion

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Augustana men's grapplers (4-7, 0-3) had a successful Saturday at the Gator Boots Duals in Nashville. The Vikings went 3-1 in this weekend dual meets with all three victories coming by double-digit margins.
 
The first dual of the day was the narrowest margin of victory for the Vikings. Augustana outlasted a late charge from the Huntingdon Hawks for a 25-15 win. Ellex Williams began the weekend with a win by fall at 125 pounds followed by a Trevor Boryla major decision victory. Alex Cruz, Clay DeBaillie, and Jacob Badger all earned victories by decision while Kameron Hanel was awarded a forfeit win at 141 pounds.
 
The second round dual between Augustana and Manchester was went further in the Vikings' favor with a final score of 49-6. Augustana again began with wins by fall, major decision, and forfeit from Williams, Boryla, and Hanel, respectively. Alex Cruz also won via with a pin. Carson Harder also earned six points with a forfeit win of his own. Chase Clark, DeBaillie, and Badger combined for 17 team points with a pair of pins and a technical fall between them. Daniel Skold rounded out the dual win with a major decision triumph.
 
The Vikings continued their domination with a 47-3 win over Waynesburg in their next contest. Williams, Cruz, and Tom Leisz all won by forfeit while Hanel, DeBaillie, and Badger all earned victories via fall. Clark added a tech. fall victory while Boryla earned a respectable 10-3 decision in Augie's trouncing of the Yellow Jackets.
 
Finally, the Vikings' undefeated weekend was foiled by the events' hosts from Luther College. The Norse handled the last six bouts with relative ease on their way to a 31-12 team win. Williams and Boryla picked up where they left off with a win by sudden victory and fall, respectively. Cruz earned a solid "W" by decision in the 149-pound match, but Luther rolled through the remainder of the lineup.
 
The Augustana men will return to the mat after the holidays when they host Carthage on Thursday, Jan. 6 for a CCIW dual.
