ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana men's wrestling team (0-3, 0-2) will hit the mat tomorrow night for a pair of non-conference duals against two American Rivers Conference opponents. The Vikings will be seeking to win their first dual meet of the season in the home opening contests.
Augie will start the night against the Storm of Simpson College. Simpson is currently 1-2 for the season with their lone win coming against NAIA program Iowa Wesleyan, 24-19. The Storm's two losses have come to Cornell (30-18) and national power Wartburg (41-3).
Augustana has had an advantage over Simpson throughout their historical matchups. The Vikings lead the all-time series 16-7 and have won the last 10 duals against the Storm.
The Vikings will then take on the Central Dutch in the nightcap. Central is currently 3-2 overall and 0-1 in ARC competition. The Dutch have won their last three duals against Pennsylvania schools King's College, Muhlenberg, and East Stroudsburg.
The Vikings also have the advantage in their all-time series with Central by a 16-9-1 margin. Augustana dominated the series around the turn of the last century winning 11 straight duals from 1994-2009. The Dutch have had more recent success, though, with four straight wins over Augie.
