IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Augustana men's golf team competed at the Central Fall Classic at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City the last two days. The Vikings were up against several quality opponents and finished in ninth place.
Augustana ended the first round in slightly better position at eighth.
Adam Soczka led the team with a round of 80 followed by
Tyler Langel with an opening 82.
Day two saw similar results for the Vikings as Soczka and Langel posted scores of 88 and 89, respectively. Soczka was the only Augie player in the top 25 at T24. Langel finished just outside the top 30 at T31.
The remainder of Augustana's lineup included
Jonah Snelling (86, 89) at T44,
Hunter Love (87, 90) in 49
th, and
Dan Ford (90, 83), who had a much-improved second round to finish T35.
Two other Vikings competed as individuals at the fall classic. Billy Taylor ended T60 after round of 88 and 97 while
Sean Conniff finished T63 following scores of 88 and 99.
The hosts from Central College won the event by 20 strokes at +51 and had the third-place team in their "B" squad. The Dutch also boasted the individual winner and runner-up as Matthew Briggs shot +2 for the tournament and Harold Dobernecker posted +10.
Augustana will be back on the course next Monday, Oct. 11, for a dual match against St. Ambrose at Crow Valley Golf Club in Bettendorf.
