ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana women's volleyball (11-21, 2-6) punctuated their 2021 campaign with an exclamation point as they won two of three at their home Pumpkin Bash invite this weekend.
The Vikings dropped their first match of the weekend but bounced back with two victories to finish the schedule.
In the first game, on Friday afternoon, Augustana opened with a 3-1 loss to Benedictine (15-11, 9-3). The Vikings were able to outlast a charging Eagle squad in the second set but could not find any more magic.
Jaden Julius,
Lexis Miller, and
Emily Schipper all recorded double-digit kills in the first match. Another trio of
Grace Vranicar,
Evey Gervase, and
Olivia Doak also made double-digit digs. Doak, as well as
Annalise Peterson, recorded 21 assists while Peterson had a match-best five service aces.
Prior to Friday's nightcap, the Augie volleyball team honored three graduating student athletes including Miller, Doak, and
Katie Vilardi. All three had standout performances as Doak posted 10 assists and two aces, Miller recorded a pair of kills, and Vilardi added 11 digs as a reserve. Outside of a 28-26 win in the second set, Augustana dominated Simpson College in the match. The Vikings enjoyed the sweep to end the night.
Finally, the tournament and season schedule came to an end on Saturday afternoon. Augustana needed only three sets to take down Edgewood in another straight sweep. Schipper led the Vikings offensive attack with 14 kills while both Doak and Peterson made another 16 assists each. On defense, Augie's front line was dominant with Miller, Ja'nya Davis, and
Sydney Krueger all had four blocks. Vranicar and Gervase were also great the back end of the Augustana defense with 17 and 12 digs, respectively.
Schipper was named to the 2021 Pummpkin Bash All-Tournament Team.
The two consecutive wins to close the schedule eclipsed double digits in the win column for Augustana. The Vikings end their season with an overall record of 11-21 and a 2-6 mark in CCIW play.
