Box Score ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana women's volleyball (7-18, 1-5) welcomed the Carroll University Pioneers (6-17, 0-6) for a CCIW match. On paper, both teams were evenly matched with equal number of wins overall and identical records in conference play. The play on the court was just as even as the Vikings gutted out a hard-fought 3-1 victory.

Carroll exploded out to an early lead in the first set before Augustana could settle into the match. The Pioneers led 12-9 when back-to-back service aces by Emily Schipper sparked a short run and led to Augie tying the score. A Pioneer timeout failed to thwart the Vikings' charge as Augustana took the first set, 25-20.

Carroll built another early advantage in the second set as they led 9-5 to start the period. Too many Viking errors doomed Augie despite several flashes of a potential comeback. Carroll knotted the match at 1-1 with a 25-18 victory in set two.

The third set saw the most competitive start of the night with both teams trading scores up to 7-7. Augie found some footing midway through the period and cruised to a 25-16 set win.

Augustana and Carroll continued started the fourth set in a similar fashion with several traded scores. The back-and-forth action continued until Carroll gathered a 23-19 lead, the largest of the set for either side. The Vikings refused to quit, though, and battled back to take a brief 24-23 lead. A Pioneer attack error sealed the set and match win.

Emily Schipper led the Vikings with 19 kills on 64 attempts. Schipper was also the only Augie player with multiple service aces with two and was second on the club with 21 digs. Grace Vranicar led that defensive category with 24. Olivia Doak and Annalise Peterson posted double-digit assists with 25 and 13, respectively.

Augustana will hit the road for their next contest when they visit Illinois Wesleyan on Friday, Oct. 22. The Vikings match with IWU will be the penultimate CCIW match of the regular season.
