Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Augustana Vikings men's water polo team split a pair of games over the weekend out east, falling to the host school Washington & Jefferson Presidents by a score of 12-10 in the first game before defeating the Penn State-Behrend Lions 22-9.
The Presidents jumped out to an early 5-2 lead after eight minutes of play. The two teams played an evenly-matched second quarter, with each of them pushing two goals across to keep the margin the same heading into halftime. In the third, each of the offenses had their best scoring output of the contest, but again they played to a balanced score within the quarter as Washington & Jefferson led 11-8 entering the final frame. Augie managed to inch closer, but could not quite catch up and the Presidents escaped with the two-point victory.
Joseph Addison tallied four goals for the Vikings in the game, grabbing one in each quarter. Collin McDowell and
Jacob Fisher also notched a pair of scores.
In the second match of the day, Augustana exploded for a season-high 22 goals. The Vikings held a 5-3 advantage after one quarter of play, pushing that lead to five after mirroring their opening period output with five more goals in the second. It was more of the same in the third, seeing four goals from
Mikel Navajas alone to stretch their margin. The fourth quarter saw seven goals from Augie, all from seven different players to cruise to the finish line with the 22-9 win.
A total of 12 different Vikings players tallied at least one goal in the game, led by Navajas' four.
Lucas Osborn was next in line with three.
With the results, Augustana is now 2-9 on the season as they get ready for the NCAA DIII CWPA Championships next weekend. The team will be in action against an opponent to be named later on Saturday, October 23rd in New London, Conn.
