Men's water polo to face pair of familiar foes out east

10/15/2021 8:53:00 AM

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Augustana men's water polo team will take on a pair of teams out east this weekend as they get ready to face off with familiar faces on Saturday, October 16th at the home of the Washington & Jefferson Presidents.

The Vikings (1-8) will begin the day against the host school Washington & Jefferson at noon. The two schools met earlier this year at the Penn State-Behrend Invite in Augie's first weekend of competition this year. The two teams played an evenly-matched game with the score tied heading into the final period. With the game deadlocked at 15-15 late in the fourth, the Presidents pushed through a goal with just two seconds showing on the clock to escape with the 16-15 victory over the Vikings. Seven different Augie players scored in that contest, which sits as the team's highest scoring output of the season so far. Joseph Addison led the balanced attack with four goals.

The Presidents sit at 6-8 on the season, but have lost four of their last five games.

In the second game of the weekend, Augustana will go up against the Lions of Penn State-Behrend. The two teams met in the Vikings' season opener back in early September, which resulted in a 15-11 win for Augie. The Vikings held on to a late charge from the Lions to secure the win. After entering the fourth quarter, with a 14-5 lead, the Lions scored six consecutive goals in the final frame, but eventually ran out of time to give Augustana the win in their inaugural contest.

The Lions are 0-10 this season.

Augustana will play Washington & Jefferson at 12:00 p.m. CST and Penn State-Behrend at 7:00 p.m. CST.
