ELMHURST, Ill. – Coach
Seth Tegtmeier's Augustana bowling team opened the season Saturday at Elmhurst, finishing 3-1 on the day. After a set of matches against the bye to start things, the Vikings defeated Illinois Wesleyan in both traditional and Baker play before splitting with the host Bluejays, taking the traditional match and falling in Baker action.
Augustana will take a 3-1 head-to-head mark to Naperville, Illinois on Saturday, February 6, where the Vikings are scheduled to compete against host North Central, Illinois Wesleyan and Elmhurst.
Freshman
Alexis Munch (Sycamore HS, Sycamore, Ill.) rolled a 228 to lead Tegtmeier's bunch to an 808-559 victory over Illinois Wesleyan in traditional play. Junior
Alex Buffington (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.) contributed a 213 to the cause. Augustana downed the Titans in Baker action as well by a score of 732-546.
The Vikings' 747-737 traditional victory over Elmhurst came down to the final frame. Freshman
Mina Garner (Lake Park HS, Roselle) led the way, rolling a 180. The Bluejays claimed an 800-730 win in Baker competition.
Junior
Abigail Clark's (Wilmot HS, Twin Lakes, Wis.) 165 led the way in the day's opener against the bye, which yielded a traditional score of 753 and a Baker total of 736.
Munch and Buffington competed in all three traditional games on the day and posted respective averages of 180.0 and 172.3 to lead Augustana.
