Spring portion of season cancelled due to fears over COVID-19; Vikings tie for fourth at Elmhurst Fall Invite; take fifth at Clarke Fall Classic; Jack Neenan medalist at Quad City Intercollegiate with season-low round of 71; repeats as team MVP

Coach Paul Del Vecchio's Augustana golf team managed to play six events in the fall portion of the 2019-20 schedule before fears over COVID-19 wiped out the spring calendar. The CCIW Championship, along with seven other events were casualties.

Highlights of the truncated season included junior Jack Neenan's (Benet Academy, Naperville, Ill.) medalist performance at the Quad City Intercollegiate on October 19. Neenan, who was a repeat selection as the Vikings' MVP, fired an Augustana season-low and personal career-best, one-under round of 71 to win by three strokes.

In addition to a second-place finish at that three-team event, the team's other top performances included a tie for fourth place among 14 teams at the Elmhurst Fall Invite on September 26 and fifth in a field of 14 teams at the Clarke Fall Classic on September 20-21.

Neenan posted a team-best 77.3 average, playing all six events. That ranks as the 25th-best single-season mark in program history and he's currently 24th all-time with a career average of 79.58. He shot under 80 in eight of nine rounds this year and his 72 at the CCIW Preview on September 24 earned him a tie for fifth place.

Freshman Tyler Langel (West Delaware HS, Manchester, Iowa), the team's Newcomer of the Year, was second in scoring. He averaged 79.4 over five rounds with a low of 74 on day two of the Clarke Fall Classic. He placed in the top half of the field in all four events in which he competed, including a tie for ninth at Quad City Intercollegiate.

Junior Dylan Flock (Maroa-Forsyth HS, Forsyth, Ill.), who joined Neenan as the only Vikings to play all nine rounds, recorded an average of 79.9 strokes. He carded a 74 to tie for ninth at Elmhurst and his 77 at the Quad City Intercollegiate tied for seventh place.

Sophomore Hunter Love (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) played eight rounds in six events with low of 76 on September 6 at Carthage's Tim Kopka Memorial. His 78 at the Quad City Intercollegiate earned him a tie for ninth place and he finished the season with an average of 81.5.
