Vikings stay undefeated with identical 9-0 wins over Coe and Wisconsin-Oshkosh

Vikings stayed undefeated with 9-0 wins over Coe and UW-Oshkosh.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – In the first action since placing second in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships last October, the Augustana women's tennis team maintained its perfect dual meet record with a pair of 9-0 decisions on Saturday, March 7 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Vikings of veteran head coach Jon Miedema defeated Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Coe by identical 9-0 scores in non-conference action at Coe.
 
With the two victories in the opening action of the spring campaign Augustana moves to 11-0 on the season. The Vikings will get a test this coming weekend when they face Gustavus Adolphus and Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday, March 14 in St. Peter, Minnesota.
 
AUGUSTANA 9, UW-OSHKOSH 0
 
The Vikings rolled past the Titans 9-0 and showed no signs of rust after having been without competition since late October. The doubles teams got things going with a clean 3-0 sweep. Senior Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) and junior Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) won at number one doubles by a score of 8-1 over Alyssa Leffler and Michelle Spicer. The number two team of freshmen Lily Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) and Lauren Oda (Elk Grove HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) beat Samantha Koppa and Taylor Johnson 8-5. At number three doubles, it was junior Leraaen Abbott (Belvidere North HS, Belvidere, Ill.) and freshman Grace Rider (Madison East HS, Madison, Wis.) over Evie Chitko and Lesley Kutnink 8-0.
 
When the match switched to singles it was more of the same as Timm swamped Leffler 6-0; 6-1 at number one and Badawi beat Koppa 6-2; 6-1 at number two. Freshman Michaela Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) beat Spicer 6-3; 6- and Schoeck took care of Kutnink 6-0; 6-0 at number four.
 
Oda beat Johnson 6-1; 6-2 at number five and junior Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) won 6-1; 6-0 at number six over Chitko. It was Bullen's first action of the year, as she did not play in the fall season.
 
AUGUSTANA 9, COE 0
 
Augsutana did not slow down after defeating UW-Oshkosh and the Vikings stayed hot with a 9-0 win over the host KoHawks.
 
The doubles group did not have it quite as easy as it did against the Titans but still came away with a 3-0 lead. Timm and Badawi beat Eliza Sundermann and Emma Lassen 8-3 at number one and Abbott and Schoeck teamed at number two and defeated Ella White and Victoria Montoya 8-5. The number three team was Magee and Bullen and the result was an 8-2 win over Christine Puleo and Sophia Craig.
 
Timm beat Sundermann 6-3; 6-1 at number one and Badawi handled Lassen 6-2; 6-1 at number two. Magee defeated White 6-4; 6-1 at number three and Schoeck whipped Puleo 6-3; 6-1 at number four. Oda won 6-2; 6-2 over Craig at number five and Rider beat Michaela Pinto 6-1; 6-4 at number six.
