Augustana falls 42-6 at fifth-ranked Coe

Freshman 285-pounder Daniel Skold scored a 12-11 victory
Thursday over Coe's seventh-ranked Kaleb Reeves, but
Augustana dropped a 42-6 decision to the fifth-ranked Kohawks.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Augustana got wins in its first and last bouts of the evening Thursday, but dropped a 42-6 decision at fifth-ranked Coe. The Vikings fell to 0-7 in dual meets this season, while the Kohawks improved to 9-1.
 
Sophomore Ellex Williams (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) got Augustana off to a great start at 125 pounds, scoring a 5-3 sudden victory Amier Khamis. Khamis entered the match rated as a contender by d3wrestle.com, placing him in the top 18 wrestlers nationally at 125. Williams moved to 11-13 on the year.
 
The Vikings' other win came at 285, where freshman Daniel Skold (St. Francis HS, Plainfield, Ill.) recorded a 12-11 victory over Coe's Kaleb Reeves, rated seventh in the nation by d3wrestle. Skold evened his season record at 5-5.
 
Of Augustana's seven setbacks (the Vikings forfeited at 133), four came to grapplers receiving mention in the rankings of d3wrestle or InterMat.
 
On Saturday, January 18, Coach Tony Willaert's squad will compete at Cornell's Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
