KENOSHA, Wis. - Coach Jon Miedema's Augustana men crowned five champions in four flights this weekend at the CCIW Fall Invitational at Carthage. The tournament featured eight singles flights and four in doubles. Viking junior Caio deRezende (Colegio Itoca, Sao Paulo, Brazil) claimed the title at first singles.

Miedema's other champs were Guilherme Calixto (Calegria, Presidente Prudente, Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Leonardo Panossa (La Sale Caxias, Caxias do Sul, Brazil), who shared the title at third singles, Scott Daluga (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.), who won at fifth singles and Calixto and Kyle Boudreau (Antioch HS, Anticoh, Ill.), who were victorious at third doubles.

DeRezende's path started with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Carroll's Lucas Nay on Saturday morning. In the afternoon, he defeated Daniel Moore of Carthage 6-2, 6-2 to advance to Sunday's final, where he cruised past Javier Suarez Balsera of North Central by a score of 6-1, 6-2.

Calixto and Panosso each logged a pair of wins on Saturday and chose not to face each other in the third singles final. Calixto, a junior, downed Carroll's Brian Trefilek 6-1, 6-0 and John Nykyforuk of Carthage 6-1, 6-2. Panosso, a sophomore, was a 6-1, 6-2 victor over Carter Burk of Illinois Wesleyan and downed North Central's Andy Hinch by a score of 6-3, 6-4.

At fifth singles, Daluga rolled Luke Barter of Carroll 6-1, 6-3 in the first round before surviving his semifinal with Carthage's Kevin Dunn 6-1, 5-7 (10-6). The senior scored a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Steven Mears of North Central in the title match.

Boudreau, a sophomore, and Calixto were 8-2 opening-round winners over North Central's Triston Robb and Jeremiah Joyce and advanced to the third doubles final when a Carthage team defaulted. Facing another Red men duo—Austin Sternbach and Hayden Frese—for the title, the Viking pair posted another 8-2 victory.

Augustana also took second place in four flights. Junior Peter Alex (Hinsdale South HS, Darien, Ill.) went 2-1 and was second at number two singles. Sophomore Justin Cassens (Emerald Ridge HS, Puyallup, Wash.) and freshman Vinicius Lopes (Rondonopolis, Brazil) did the same at sixth and eighth singles, respectively. Alex and classmate Sriram Sugumaran (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) also went 2-1 to finish as runners-up at number one doubles.

Viking junior Alvaro Leal (Maristas Valencia, Valencia, Spain) finished 2-1 as well, placing third at number one singles.
