Vikings roll past North Central 7-2 for 17th straight CCIW victory

Jon Miedema's Vikings beat North Central 7-2 yesterday for the 17th straight 
win in conference dual meet action. Augustana has also won 34 of its last
36 CCIW matches dating back to midway through the 2014 fall season.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Youth was served on Thursday, September 12 as Augustana defeated North Central 7-2 in women's tennis action in Aurora, Illinois at the Vaughan Tennis Center. The match was moved from the North Central courts in Naperville, Illinois due to the threat of rain in the area.
 
Head coach Jon Miedema had three freshmen in the single lineup in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin opener and all three came away with victories. The Vikings have now won 17 straight CCIW matches dating back to an 8-1 loss to Wheaton on October 15, 2016. In addition to the 17 straight victories, Augustana has won 34 of its last 36 league matches.
 
Michaela Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) played the highest of the three freshmen as she was plugged in to the third singles position. She came away with a 6-1; 6-1 win over Katie McGraw. Classmate Lily Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) beat Linsy Jante at number four by a score of 4-6; 6-3; 10-4. The third freshman in the starting lineup was Lauren Oda (Elk Grove HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) and she defeated Morgan House 6-3; 6-3.
 
Junior Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) defeated Hannah Hougland 6-2; 6-2 at number one and junior Kalli Majewski (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) beat Ellie Gallagher 6-1; 6-2 at number six.
 
Senior Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) dropped a 3-6; 3-6 decision at number two to Alaina Kanthaphixay.
 
The Vikings grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles action. Timm and junior Leraaen Abbott (Belvidere North HS, Belvidere, Ill.) beat McGraw and Jante 8-4 at number two. Majewski and Schoeck teamed to defeat Gallagher and Yaitova Spiegel 8-6 at number three. Augustana's number one team of Badawi and Oda fell 3-8 to Houghland and Kanthaphixay.
 
Saturday, September 14 will see the Vikings at home for the first time. Augustana will host Illinois Wesleyan in a CCIW match at 9:00 a.m. before playing Wartburg in a non-conference affair at 3:30 p.m.
