Senior Brandon Wilkerson won the CCIW title in the 3000 steeplechase for the
second time in his career.
KENOSHA, Wis. – Senior
Brandon Wilkerson (Tri-Point HS, Stelle, Ill.) won the 3000 steeplechase at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships for the second time in his career on Friday, May 3 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Wilkerson recorded a winning time of 9:17.55 and he reclaimed the title that he first one as a sophomore in 2017 and then lost last year. Freshman
Karsten Zielinski (Schaumburg HS, Schaumburg, Ill.) also placed in the event, taking fifth in 9:42.50.
Friday was the second day of three days of competition in the CCIW and North Central has the lead in the team race with 76 points while the Vikings are in second with 56. Wheaton (37), Carthage (34) and Illinois Wesleyan (25) rounded out the top five while Carroll (21), Elmhurst (14), North Park (10) and Millikin (4) finished out the field.
Senior
Ryan Ganson (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) placed third in the javelin with a toss of 180' 8". Senior
Mark VanderHeyden (West Mercer HS, Aledo, Ill.) took fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 14' 5" and senior
Patrick Crompton (Hood River HS, Hood River, Ore.) was sixth at 14' 1 ¾".
Sophomore
Mason Wright (Polo HS, Woosung, Ill.) took seventh in the long jump with a leap of 21' 6 ¼" and freshman
Carl Schoenfield (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) was seventh in the 10,000 with a time of 32"07.61.
