Johnson, Teets and 4x400 win at Pioneer Invite

Sophomore Josh Teets won the 800 and ran the third leg of
the winning 4x400 relay Saturday at the Pioneer Invite in
Waukesha, Wisconsin.

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Michael Johnson (Owensboro HS, Owensboro, Ky.), Josh Teets (Burlington Central HS, Maple Park, Ill.) and the Augustana 4x400 relay team came away victorious Saturday at Carroll's Pioneer Invite. Johnson claimed the 100 in :10.95, Teets won the 800 in 1:56.28 and Clayton Sommers (Saydel HS, Des Moines, Iowa), Brandon Keleher (Orion HS, Orion, Ill.), Teets and Ian Rothery (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.) captured the 1600 relay in 3:28.41 as the Vikings placed third among 12 teams.
 
Teets led three Augustana place-winners in the 800. Anthoney Brown (Alwood HS, Woodhull, Ill.) was second in 1:59.61 and Justin Verlinden (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) finished sixth in 2:03.02.
 
Peyton Couch (Ottawa HS, Marseilles, Ill.) and Ryan Ganson (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) recorded second-place finishes. Couch ran a :59.09 in the 400 hurdles and Ganson threw the javelin 173' 7".
 
In the 200, Sommers placed third in :22.97, Bradley Kohler (Woodstock North HS, Woodstock, Ill.) took fourth in :23.08 and Whitaker Siaw (Christian Life HS, Rockford, Ill.) was sixth in :23.34. Siaw's :11.64 in the 100 was good for seventh.
 
Rothery ran a :52.45 to place third in the 400, Mark VanderHeyden (Mercer County HS, Aledo, Ill.) cleared 13' 10½" to take third in the pole vault and Judd Anderson (Farmington HS, Elmwood, Ill.) led a contingent of three Vikings to place in the 110 hurdles. Anderson finished third in :16.82, Daniel Bornstein (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) was sixth in :18.05 and Urvaksh Avanthsa (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) seventh in :19.45.
 
Keleher's 39' 10½" was good for fourth in the triple jump.
 
In the long jump, Mason Wright (Polo HS, Woosung, Ill.) went 20' 9¾" to place fifth, Keleher was sixth with a mark of 20' 1" and John MacDonald (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) went 19' 5¼" to finish eighth.
 
Marco Alanis (Niles West HS, Morton Grove, Ill.) placed seventh in the 3000 with a time of 9:30.35.

With 111 points, Augustana placed third in the team standings behind host Carroll (146.5) and second-place Carthage (129). Wisconsin Lutheran (72.5) was fourth and Beloit (59) rounded out the top five.
 
On Friday, April 19, Coach Jake Shaver's squad will host the Meet of Champions at Paul V. Olsen Track.
