Two more wins for the Vikings bump record to 15-2

MOLINE, Ill. – Fresh off the regional rankings from earlier in the week that saw Augustana move into the top 15, the Vikings posted a pair of wins on Sunday, March 31 to move to 15-2 on the season. Head coach Jon Miedema's team moved into 13th place in the ITA/Oracle NCAA Division III Central Region's rankings. The senior doubles team of Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) and Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) also cracked the regional rankings, checking in at 13th.
 
The Vikings will now play Central of Iowa on Friday, April 5 at 4:00 p.m. at the Lower Campus Courts for their next action.
 
AUGUSTANA 7, IIT 2
 
Augustana moved to 14-2 overall with an impressive 7-2 win over Illinois Institute of Technology on Sunday morning, March 31 at the Quad City Tennis Club. The Vikings, ranked 13th in the latest NCAA Division III Central Regional rankings used superior depth to pick up the win as IIT won at both number one singles and number one doubles.
 
Sophomore Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and junior Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) defeated Kaitlyn Graves and Sophia Nelson 8-3 at number two. Sophomores Leraaen Abbott (Belvidere North HS, Belvidere, Ill.) and Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy,  Lakewood, Colo.) defeated Mouna Chahin and Kylie Hance 8-1 at number three.
 
The number one doubles team of seniors Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) and Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood HS, Chicago, Ill.), currently ranked 13th in the region, dropped an 8-7 decision to Weronika Halicka and Morgan Colbert at number one.
 
Timm picked up a 7-5; 6-2 win over Colbert at number two singles while Badawi beat Nelon 6-1; 6-1 at number three. Lombardi won a three set battle over Hance 7-5; 4-6; 6-0 at number four.  Bullen beat Graves 6-2; 6-1 at number five and Abbott picked up a 6-2; 6-3 victory against Allyson Trang 6-2; 6-3 at number six.
 
AUGUSTANA 9, COE 0
 
The Vikings rolled past Coe by the score of 9-0 for their 15th win of the season against just two defeats. It was the fifth straight win over the KoHawks in this series which the Vikings lead 11-8.
 
Augustana swept the doubles without too much trouble as Schaffer and Lombardi moved to 20-5 on the season with an 8-4 win over Laruen French and Isabella Hoppenjans at number one. Timm and Badawi are now 19-3 with an 8-4 victory over Eliza Sundermann and Lakyn Boltz at number two. The number three team of Bullen and Abbot moved to 15-5 with an 8-0 whitewash over Ella White and Sophia Craig at number three.
 
When the action moved to singles the Vikings won all six in straight sets with Schaffer taking care of French 6-4; 6-4 at number one to move to 15-8 this season. Timm is now 20-6 at number two with a 6-1; 6-4 victory over Hoppenjans at number two. Badawi pushed her mark to 20-6 with a 6-1; 6-0 triumph over Sundermann at number three.
 
Lombardi, who did not play singles a year ago, is now 13-8 at number four with her 6-2; 6-0 victory over Botlz. Bullen beat White 6-1; 6-2 at number five and she evened her record at 6-6. Abbott handled Craig 6-1; 6-0 at number six and bumped her record to 3-3.
