Junior Zeana Badawi won twice on Sunday as the Vikings defeated Lake
Forest 5-4 to move to 13-2 on the season.
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – A clean sweep in doubles helped key Augustana in a 5-4 non-conference victory over Lake Forest on Sunday, March 24 at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff. The Vikings made that 3-0 lead in the early going hold up as they moved to 13-2 on the season.
Seniors
Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) and
Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) picked up an 8-5 win over Julie Lord and Leeza Bodnar at number one doubles and moved to 19-4 on the season. The number two team of sophomore
Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and junior
Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) went to 17-3 with an 8-4 win over Allison Watts and Tyranny Miller.
Sophomores
Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) and
Leraaen Abbott (Belvidere North HS, Belvidere, Ill.) fought hard for an 8-7 win over Emma Wang and Tebatso Duba at number three doubles. Bullen and Abbott are now 13-5 this year.
Leading 3-0 heading into singles the Vikings of head coach
Jon Miedema needed every point of that lead because Lake Forest won four of the six singles matches to close the gap.
Timm defeated Watts 3-6; 6-2; 6-2 at number two and is now 18-6 this year while Badawi upped her mark to 18-6 with a 6-3; 6-2 win over Duba at number three.
Schaffer fell 6-2; 4-6; 4-6 to Lord at number one and Bullen also dropped a three setter at number five. She fell 6-4; 2-6; 2-6 to Wang. Lombardi lost 2-6; 4-6 to Bodnar at number four and Abbott dropped a 1-6; 2-6 decision to Katie Wegrecki at number six.
Augustana will play Illinois Institute of Technology (9:00 a.m.) and Coe (3:00 p.m.) on Sunday, March 31 at home. If the weather is good the matches will be played at the Lower Campus Courts but if needed, they will be played at the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Illinois.
