Morkin picks up 100th win as Vikings defeat Calvin 6-3
MOLINE, Ill. – Senior
Jack Morkin (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) picked the 100th victory of his career and Augustana overcame an early deficit after doubles to defeat Calvin 6-3 in non-conference men's tennis action on Saturday, February 9 at the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Illinois. Morkin's 100th victory came at number six singles where he defeated Brandon Johnson 7-6; 6-0.
Morkin's move into the century mark wasn't the only noteworthy achievement for the Vikings of head coach
Jon Miedema. The win came over Miedema's alma mater. It also kept the Vikings perfect on the season at 3-0.
Morkin is now 100-67 during his career and he is 47-33 in singles and 53-34 in doubles action.
During the doubles portion of the match the only Augustana win came at number two doubles when freshman
Leonardo Panosso (La sale Caxias; Caxias Do Sul, Brazil) and sophomore
Rodrigo Medeiros (Reino; Pelotas Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil) beat Jason Wolters and Owen Brookhouse 8-5.
The Vikings number one team of sophomore
Sriram Sugumaran (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) and sophomore
Peter Alex (Hinsdale South HS, Darien, Ill.) fell 8-6 to Jose Larrea and Max Stallings. The number team for Augustana of Morkin and junior
Scott Daluga (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) dropped an 8-4 decision to Cyrus Tsai and Konner Shapiro.
Victories in five of the six singles matches put Augustana on the right side of the ledger. Sophomore Caio DeRezende
(Colegio Itoca; Sao Paulo, Brazil) defeated Larrea 6-1; 6-1 at number one and sophomore
Alvaro Leal (Maristas Valencia; Valencia, Spain) beat Wolters 6-3; 6-2 at number two.
Alex beat Charlie Fahr 6-0; 6-1 at number four and sophomore
Guilherme Calixto (Calegria; Presidente Prudente, Aso Paulo, Brazil) handled Cobe Benzel 6-2; 6-1 at number five.
Sriram fell 6-7; 3-6 to Stallings at number three.

Vikings roll past short-handed Edgewood to move to 4-0
MOLINE, Ill. – After opening the day with a 6-3 win over Calvin, Augustana closed out Saturday, February 9 with a 9-0 victory over a short-handed Edgewood squad. The Eagles did not field a number three doubles team and also did not play at numbers four, five or six singles.

Alex Riddle (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) and junior
Scott Daluga (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) beat Jackson Venske and Tommy Ebben 8-5 at number two. At number three doubles freshman
Justin Cassens (Emerald Ridge HS, Puyallup, Wash.) and junior
Ryan Sullivan (The Gow School, Winnetka, Ill.) won by default.
Sophomore
Sriram Sugumaran (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) defeated Dornhagen at number one singles 6-3; 7-5. Senior
Jack Morkin (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.), fresh off his 100
th career victory earlier in the day, moved into the number two singles position and defeated Seeger 6-0; 6-0.
Cassens played number three and beat Venske 6-1; 6-3 while Riddle, Daluga and Sullivan all won by default at numbers four, five and six respectively.
