Johnson sets new school record in the 60 at Olivet Nazarene Invitational

Michael Johnson is the new school record holder in the 60 meter dash 
after he recorded a time of :06.87 in winning the event at the Olivet
Nazarene Invitational.

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Senior Michael Johnson (Owensboro HS, Owensboro, Ky.) established a new Augustana school record in the 60 meter dash to highlight the Vikings' efforts at the Olivet Nazarene Invitational on Saturday, February 2 in Bourbonnais, Illinois. There were no team scores kept in the meet and Johnson was the lone winner for first year head coach Jake Shaver's crew.
 
Johnson ripped off a winning time of :06.87 and in the process he took down the previous mark of :06.95 which he shared with multiple All-American honoree Alex Rindone. Rindone clocked his time in 2012.
 
Johnson also ran a leg on Augustana's seventh place 4x400 relay team that recorded a time of 3:31.65. He was joined by freshman Ian Rothery (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.), sophomore Bradley Kohler (Woodstock North HS, Woodstock, Ill.) and senior Clayton Sommers (Saydel HS, Des Moines, Iowa).
 
Junior Joshua Mathis (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) was second in the shot put with a toss of 50' 11 ½" and senior Cody Wheeler (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) took third in the weight throw with a heave of 57' 1".
 
Sophomore Joshua Teets (Burlington Central HS, Maple Park, Ill.) took third in the mile in 4:24.02 and senior Brandon Wilkerson (Tri-Point HS, Stelle, Ill.) was right behind him (4:24.37) in fourth place. Junior Nick Harvey (Burlington Central HS, Elgin, Ill.) placed fourth in the 800 in 2:00.22.
 
Sophomore Mason Wright (Polo HS, Woosung, Ill.) was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 43' 4 ¼"  and eighth in the long jump (21' 4 ¾") and freshman John MacDonald (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) took eighth (42' 0 ¾") in the triple jump.
 
Seniors Patrick Crompton (Hood River Valley HS, Hood River, Ore.) and Mark VanderHeyden (Mercer County HS, Aledo, Ill.) tied for fifth in the pole vault as each cleared 13' 11 ¼". Sophomore Riley Smith (St. Charles North HS, South Elgin, Ill.) took eighth in the 60 hurdles (:09.18).
 
Augustana will be in action again on Saturday, February 9 at the Darren Young Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa.
