Sophomore Mason Wright won the long jump on the first day of the 2019
CCIW Indoor Championships.

Mason Wright (Polo HS, Woosung, Ill.) won the long jump to highlight the Augustana effort at the first day of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, February 22 in Naperville, Illinois. Thanks in part to Wright's heroics the Vikings of first year head coach
Jake Shaver are in second place in the team standings after five events have been scored.
North Central leads the team race with 68 points while Augustana has 34 points in the runner-up position. Wheaton is third with 25 and Illinois Wesleyan is fourth with 21. Carthage (19), Millikin (15), North Park (8), Carroll (3) and Elmhurst (2) round out the scoring.
Wright took the long jump with a season's best leap of 22' 7 ¾" and was the lone winner for the Vikings on Friday at Al Carius Track on the campus of North Central.

Cody Wheeler (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) took second in the weight toss with a throw of 56
7 ¼". Augustana also got a second place finish from the distance medley relay team that recorded a time of 10:17.84. That unit consisted of senior

Brandon Wilkerson (Tri-Point HS, Stelle, Ill.) took sixth in the 5000 with a time of 15:10.92. Seniors
Patrick Crompton (Hood River HS, Hood River, Ore.) and
Mark VanderHeyden (Mercer County HS, Aledo, Ill.) were sixth (14' 3 ½") and seventh (13' 9 ¾") respectively in the pole vault.
