DUBUQUE, Iowa – Augustana won three individual events at the Dubuque Open on Friday, February 15 in Dubuque, Iowa. The Vikings placed fourth with 85 points as they trailed Wisconsin-Platteville (133.5), Loras (115.5) and host Dubuque (87). Clarke (54), Simpson (54), Luther (29) and Cornell (29) rounded out the eight-team field.
 
Senior Michael Johnson (Owensboro HS, Owensboro, Ky.) continued his mastery in the sprints as he won the 55 meter dash in a time of :06.43.
 
Junior Nick Harvey (Burlington Central HS, Elgin, Ill.) led a one-two sweep in the 800 as he won with a time of 1:57.50. Sophomore Josh Teets (Burlington Central HS, Maple Park, Ill.) placed second in 1:57.74 and for good measure senior Nathan Ambrose (Winnebago HS, Winnebago, Ill.) finished seventh in 1:58.81.
 
Senior Cody Wheeler (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) took the weight throw with a toss of 57' 2 ¾".
 
Junior Joshua Mathis (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) took second in the shot put with a heave of 49' 10". Sophomore Mason Wright (Polo HS, Woosung, Ill.) finished third in the long jump with a leap of 20' 10". Seniors Mark VanderHeyden (Mercer County HS, Aledo, Ill.) and Patrick Crompton (Hood River HS, Hood River, Ore.) each cleared 14' 7 ¼" with VanderHeyden placing third and Crompton fifth.
 
Senior Rob Williams (Vernon Hills HS, Vernon Hills, Ill.) was fourth in the 3000 in 9:22.06 and junior Mike Mankowski (Gardner-South Wilmington HS, Gardner, Ill.) took eighth (9:30.89) in the same event.
 
Senior Clayton Sommers (Saydel HS, Des Moines, Iowa) finished fifth in the 400 in :51.18. Senior Tyler Burns (Washington HS, Washington, Ill.) was sixth in the high jump (6' 0 ¾"). Sophomore Riley Smith (St. Charles North HS, South Elgin, Ill.) was seventh in the 200 in :23.57. Senior Brandon Wilkerson (Tri-Point HS, Stelle, Ill.) took eighth in the mile with a time of 4:26.28 and junior Brandon Keleher (Orion HS, Orion, Ill.) finished eighth in the long jump (20' 2 ¼").
 
This was the final tune-up for first year head coach Jake Shaver's team heading into the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships on February 22-23 in Naperville, Illinois.
