Viking women remain unbeaten with 150-55 win at Monmouth

Sophomore Lauren Raike won the 1000 freestyle, 100 butterfly
and 100 breaststroke Friday to lead Augustana to a 150-55
win over Monmouth at Pepper Natatorium.

MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Augustana women ran their 2019-20 dual meet record to 6-0 Friday with a 150-55 win over Monmouth at Pepper Natatorium. Coach Dan Lloyd's Vikings won 10 of 11 events—including both relays—with sophomore Lauren Raike (Alamo Heights HS, San Antonio, Texas) capturing three individual races. Augustana is back in action on Saturday, November 23 at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in Bloomington, Illinois.
 
Lloyd's bunch swept the top three places in the 200-yard freestyle, the 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle.
 
Sophomore Madelynn Marunde (Belvidere North HS, Belvidere, Ill.) swam a winning 2:03.29 in the 200 free, followed by freshmen Maddie McFarland (Barrington HS, Tower Lakes, Ill.) (2:03.95) and Dominique Valentine (Walnut Hills HS, Cincinnati, Ohio) (2:06.45).
 
In the 200 IM, it was senior Gabrielle Ainsworth (Hononegah HS, South Beloit, Ill.) winning in 2:23.39. Freshman Mykenzie James (Seminole HS, Sanford, Fla.) was second in 2:32.22 and senior Grace O'Shea (Sacred Heart-Griffin HS, Springfield, Ill.) third in 2:32.88.
 
Sophomore Aviana Zahara (Pleasant Valley HS, Moline, Ill.) captured the 100 free in :53.96, followed by classmates Isabelle Seten (Centennial HS, Champaign, Ill.) and Alicia Garcia (Seminole HS, Lake Mary, Fla.) in :56.22 and :56.99, respectively.
 
Raike's victories came in the 1000 freestyle (11:23.68), 100 butterfly (1:03.39) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.82). Marunde added a win in the 500 free (5:28.96) and Seten claimed the 50 free in :25.28.
 
The Vikings took both relays, with Zahara, Marunde, Valentine and senior Patti Grod (Glenbrook North HS, Northbrook, Ill.) winning the 200 medley in 1:56.16 and Zahara, freshman Megan Frost (McHenry HS, Lakemoor, Ill.), Garcia and Seten capturing the 200 freestyle in 1:42.66.
 
Adding third-place finishes Friday were O'Shea (12:14.99) in the 1000 free, Garcia (:26.48) in the 50 free, James (1:11.91) in the 100 butterfly, McFarland (1:05.13) in the 100 backstroke, Ainsworth (1:15.95) in the 100 breaststroke and freshman Josie Torres (Lincoln-Way West HS, Manhattan, Ill.) (6:20.55) in the 500 free.
