Women's tennis rolls to 22nd straight CCIW victory

Vikings won their 22nd straight match in CCIW play with an 8-1 win over Carroll
on Saturday, October 5.

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Augustana rolled to its 22nd straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women's tennis victory on Saturday, October 5 with an 8-1 win over Carroll in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The Vikings are now 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the CCIW and the victory over the Pioneers completed a successful weekend for head coach Jon Miedema's crew. On Friday, October 4 Augustana squeezed out a 5-4 win over Carthage in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
 
The Vikings jumped out to a 2-1 edge in doubles play. Juniors Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and Leraaen Abbott (Belvidere North HS, Belvidere, Ill.) defeated Maya Gaedtke and Carolyn Merkatoris 8-3 at number two. Freshman Grace Rider (Madison East HS, Madison, Wis.) and junior Kalli Majewski (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) picked up an 8-3 win at number three over Rachel Papp and Erika Bosman. Augustana's number one team of senior Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) and freshman Lauren Oda (Elk Grove HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) dropped an 8-4 decision to Grace Krueger and Ashley LaBelle at number one.
 
Augustana swept the six singles matches with Timm leading the way by handling Krueger 6-3; 6-1 at number one. Badawi, who is coming off a leg injury and saw action for the first time this weekend since September 12, defeated LaBelle 7-5; 6-1 at number two.
 
Freshman Michaela Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) beat Gaedtke 6-0; 6-1 at number three and freshman Lily Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) rolled past Merkatoris 6-0; 6-0.
 
Oda beat Lora Leach 6-1; 6-2 at number five and Majewski beat Rachel Papp 6-0; 6-3 at number six.
 
The Vikings will play at Elmhurst on October 11 and close out the dual meet portion of the fall campaign with a battle at Wheaton on Saturday, October 12.
