Women's swimming moves to 3-0 on season with wins over Millikin and Knox

Sophomore Alicia Garcia won the 200 freestyle and swam the second leg on the 
winning 200 freestyle relay team on Saturday, October 26 as Augustana beat 
Knox and Millikin to move to 3-0 on the year.


ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Augustana moved its women's swimming and diving record to a perfect 3-0 on Saturday, October 26 at the Carver Center Pool with victories over Millikin (128-84) and Knox (165-41). The Vikings of Head Coach Dan Lloyd won six individual events and one relay.
 
Sophomores Madelynn Marunde (Belvidere North HS, Belvidere, Ill.) and Lauren Raike (Alamo Heights HS, San Antonio, Texas) were both individual double winners on the day. Marunde won the 1000 freestyle in 11:11.80 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.39 while Raike took first in the 200 individual medley (2:18.12) and the 500 freestyle (5:31.78).
 
Sophomore Alicia Garcia (Seminole HS, Lake Mary, Fla.) won the 200 freestyle in 2:04.66 and sophomore Aviana Zahara (Pleasant Valley HS, Moline, Ill.) took the 100 backstroke in :59.09. Zahara and Garcia also handled the first two legs of the winning 200 freestyle relay team that closed out the meet with a winning performance of 1:42.82. Senior Gabrielle Ainsworth (Rockton Hononegah HS, South Beloit, Ill.) and sophomore Isabelle Seten (Champaign Centennial HS, Champaign, Ill.) rounded out the relay.  Garcia added a second place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:40.67) to her effort on the day. Ainsworth placed third in the 200 individual medley (2:35.05) and Seten took second in the 50 freestyle (:25.38).
 
The 200 medley relay team of freshman Mykenzie James (Seminole HS, Sanford, Fla.), Raike, senior Patti Grod (Glenbrook North HS, Northbrook, Ill.) and freshman Megan Frost (McHenry HS, Lakemoor, Ill.) started the meet with a second place finish in 1:58.67. James was third in both the 100 butterfly (1:05.58) and 100 backstroke (1:07.58). Frost took second in the 100 freestyle in :57.31.
 
Freshman Dominique Valentine (Walnut Hills HS, Cincinnati, Ohio) placed second in both the 1000 freestyle (11:39.64) and 100 butterfly (1:04.19). Freshman Josie Torres (Lincoln-Way West HS, Manhattan, Ill.) finished third in the 200 freestyle in 2:14.86.
 
Augustana will be in competition again on Saturday, November 9 at 1:00 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa with a dual meet against Loras.
