Sophomore Daniel Terronez won five matches at the Pete Willson Invitational
and led the Vikings with a seventh place finish at 149 pounds.

Daniel Terronez (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) put together the best outing for the Augustana wrestling team at the Pete Willson Invitational on Friday, January 25 and Saturday, January 26 in Wheaton, Illinois. The Vikings of head coach
Tony Willaert placed 32
nd in the 38-team field with 16.5 points.
The University of Mount Union won the two-day meet with 135 points and North Central was second with 105.5 and Baldwin-Wallace took third with 98. Wisconsin-Whitewater (91.5) and Wisconsin-Platteville (84) rounded out the top five.
Terronez placed seventh at 149 pounds and was the lone Viking to place in the tournament. He opened his weekend by getting pinned by Zachary Cooper of Alma in :52. After that, Terronez bounced back with four straight victories in the consolation bracket.
He pinned Andrew Harrell of Wheaton at 3:30 and then beat Miguel Betancourt of Concordia 12-5. A technical fall (24-8) at 6:50 of his match with Cortez Bradley of Defiance was followed by a medical forfeit over Stephen Maloney of Messiah. Terronez then was pinned by JaVon Phillips of Manchester at 2:42 and that placed him in the seventh place match where he defeated Anthony Rink of Manchester 13-6.
Terronez leads the Vikings in victories this year with a record of 24-11.
Senior
Dale Charlier (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) went 2-2 at 133 pounds and senior
Freddy Terranova (Jackson Memorial HS, Jackson, N.J.) also was 2-2, at 157 pounds.
Augustana will wrestle at Wisconsin-Platteville on Tuesday, January 29 and at Chicago on Friday, February 1 to close out the dual meet portion of the 2018-19 season.
