Vikings win four events but fall at Carthage

but the Vikings fell 178-96 at Carthage.

KENOSHA, Wis. –  Augustana got wins Saturday from senior Jared Ekberg (Rockford Christian HS, Rockford, Ill.) in the 100 butterfly, senior Tom Pham (Westwood Baptist HS, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) in both diving events and from its 200 freestyle relay team, but ultimately fell to host Carthage by a score of 178-96 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center. Coach Dan Lloyd's Viking men are now 3-2 in dual meet action this year and will be competing at the Grinnell Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa on Friday and Saturday, January 18-19.
 
Ekberg clocked in at :52.43 to win the 100 butterfly and he also logged a second-place finish with a :21.97 in the 50 freestyle. Pham posted winning marks of 132.60 and 101.30 at one and three meters, respectively.
 
Freshman Aidan McConkey (Olympia HS, Windermere, Fla.) led off Augustana's winning 1:28.94 performance in the 200 freestyle relay. Joining him were sophomore Jeremy Wolf (Woodstock HS, Woodstock, Ill.), junior Greg Roskowic (Rockford East HS, Rockford, Ill.) and senior Luke Herron (Vail Christian HS, Edwards, Colo.).
 
Juniors Connor Bullard (Rockford Auburn HS, Loves Park, Ill.) and Adam Smith (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) finished 2-3 in the 100 freestyle with respective times of 11:11.32 and 11:26.74. Senior Bryan Haage (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) (:54.75) and Roskowic (:55.97) did the same in the 100 backstroke.
 
Sophomore Brett Keefe (Rockford Christian HS, Machesney Park, Ill.) and McConkey turned in second place efforts. Keefe finished the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.25 and McConkey recorded a :25.56 clocking in the 50 backstroke.
 
Haage took third (:49.16) in the 100 freestyle, as did Wolfe (5:10.18) in the 500 freestyle and junior Zach Ogden (United Township HS, Silvis, Ill.) (:29.54) in the 50 breaststroke.
