Volleyball falls at Carthage

Junior Madi Glatz had 24 digs in Augustana's 3-1 loss at Carthage.

KENOSHA, Wis. – Augustana dropped a 3-1 decision at Carthage on Saturday, September 29 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin volleyball action. The Lady Reds won the first two sets 30-28 and 25-21 before Kelly Bethke's Vikings bounced back to win game three 25-21 before falling 25-7 in the fourth set.
 
The Vikings led 24-22 in the first set but were unable to close things out and eventually fell 30-28. In set two Carthage broke away from a 12-12 tie midway through and picked up a 25-21 victory. Augustana never trailed in the third set and picked up the 25-21 win. In the fourth set the Lady Reds blitzed to a 10-4 lead and were never headed as they closed out the match with a decisive 25-7 win.
 
Senior Emily Uglem (Moorhead HS, Moorhead, Minn.) led the team with 13 kills and she had six digs while junior Grace Bialobok (Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Homewood, Ill.) picked up 12 kills with three assisted blocks and two solo blocks. Senior Taryn VanEarwage (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) had nine kills, nine digs and two service aces.
 
Freshman Olivia Doak (Crystal Lake Central HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) had 19 setting assists and eight digs while senior McKenzie Zambrano (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) chipped in with 18 setting assists and 14 digs.
 
Junior Madi Glatz (Morton HS, Morton, Ill.) led the team with 24 digs from her libero position.
 
Carthage got 21 kills from Shannon Kebisek and 49 setting assists from setter Ellie LeCount.
 
Carthage moves to 11-5 overall and 2-0 in the CCIW while Augustana fell to 9-8 and 0-2. The Vikings will host Elmhurst on Thursday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Carver Center.
