Senior Caitlyn Schaffer didn't drop a single game in singles or doubles
Wednesday, as Augustana downed North Park 9-0 in Chicago, Illinois.
CHICAGO, Ill. – Coach
Jon Miedema's Augustana women's tennis squad dropped just five games Wednesday in defeating North Park 9-0 on the road. Miedema's Vikings remained unbeaten in dual-meet play, improving to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the CCIW. Host NPU fell to 2-4 on the season and 0-4 in the league.
In doubles action, seniors
Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) and
Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) won 8-0 over Linn Viuhkonen and Linnea Love at number one. Sophomores
Leraaen Abbott (Belvidere North HS, Belvidere, Ill.) and
Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) were 8-0 winners as well, beating Hannah Rosenbaum and McKenzie Harrison at number three. Junior
Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) and sophomore
Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) defeated Lisa Viuhkonen and Grace Pavlak 8-1 at number two.
Schaffer was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Linn Viuhkonen at first singles and sophomore
Maleeha Chowdhury (Rock Canyon HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) won by the same score over Pavlak at number five. Badawi was also a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Lisa Viuhkonen at third singles.
Timm and Lombardi each won 6-1, 6-0 at singles slots two and four, respectively. Timm downed Love and Lombardi bested Katie Chleboun.
At sixth singles, sophomore
Kalli Majewski (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) scored a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Harrison.
Augustana is in action next on Saturday, October 6, hosting Carthage at the Lower Campus Courts beginning at 1:30 p.m.
