Totten and Pohl go out winners on Senior Day

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – It was "Senior Day" on the Lower Campus Courts and Augustana treated seniors Samuel Totten (University HS, Normal, Ill.) and Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) to a royal sendoff. The Vikings defeated Millikin 7-2 in College Conference of Illinoi & Wisconsin action on Wednesday, April 25.
 
Fittingly it was Totten and Pohl who helped get things started with an 8-6 win at number one doubles over Colin Sandgren and Jacob Palley. Totten and Pohl are now 10-8 on the season and hold the Augustana career school record for most victories with the same partner.
 
The Vikings won all three doubles matches as freshmen Peter Alex (Hinsdale South HS, Darien, Ill.) and Tom Friberg (Lund, Sweden) defeated Connor Sacks and Thomas Emola at number two. The number three team of freshman Caio DeRezende (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and junior Jack Morkin (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) defeated Greg Schwoeppe and Dane Pierantoni 8-1.
 
Augustana won four of the six singles matches. Totten pulled out a tough three-setter against Palley 2-6; 6-3; 10-5 at number one. DeRezende beat Sandgren 6-1; 6-3 at number two and Alex won 6-3; 6-3 over Sacks at number three. Morkin was also a victor in singles with a 6-4; 6-3 triumph over Pierantoni at number six.
 
Pohl lost a hard fought three-set decision (7-5; 2-6; 4-6) to Schwoeppe at number four and freshman Rodrigo Medeiros (Brazil) lost 5-7; 6-2; 10-12 at number five to Logan Bennett.
 
Augustana is now 14-10 overall and 5-1 in the CCIW while Millikin fell to 9-8 and 3-4. The Vikings will play at Elmhurst on Friday, April 27 to close out the regular season in front of the CCIW Tournament the following weekend.
