Freshman Meg Chadick won at sixth singles and third doubles this past
Friday, as Augustana defeated Adrian 9-0 in Orlando, Florida.
ORLANDO, Fla. – Coach
Jon Miedema's Augustana women's tennis team pitched a shutout at Adrian on Friday, March 2, taking all nine matches from the Bulldogs to wrap up play in Florida. The Vikings bring a 14-2 dual-meet record back to the Midwest, where they will host powers Gustavus Adolphus and Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday, March 10 at the Lower Campus Courts.
Augustana dropped just one game in its three doubles matches against Adrian. Juniors
Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) and
Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) won 8-0 at number one, as did freshmen
Margaret Chadick (Plainfield North HS, Plainfield, Ill.) and
Leraaen Abbott (Belvidere North HS, Belvidere, Ill.) at number three. Schaffer and Lombardi downed Amber Laginess and Elena Bishop, while Chadick and Abbott were victorious over Makayla Jorgensen and Julia Maltbie.
Freshmen
Faith Johnson (Harker Heights HS, Harker Heights, Texas) and
Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) defeated Samantha Cyrus and Sara Anthony 8-1 at second doubles.
In singles action, Schaffer won 6-2, 6-4 over Laginess at number one and Timm bested Cyrus 6-0, 6-2 at number two.
At third singles, sophomore
Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) won 6-0, 6-0 over Anthony. Freshman
Maleeha Chowdhury (Rock Canyon HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) defeated Jorgensen one and one at number four.
Freshman
Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) and Chadick each dropped just one game in their matches at numbers five and six, respectively. Bullen was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Bishop and Chadick took care of Maltbie 6-0, 6-1.
