CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Augustana came out on opposite ends of a pair of 7-2 decisions Sunday at the Clark Raquet Center. The Vikings dropped their opener versus Bethel (Minn.) before bouncing back to defeat host Coe. Coach Jon Miedema's crew is now 15-5 on the season and is back in action on Thursday, March 29 when Cornell visits the Lower Campus Courts for a 3:00 dual meet.
 
BETHEL 7, AUGUSTANA 2
 
Augustana picked up its wins against the Royals at second and sixth singles.  Freshman Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) won 7-5, 6-0 over Mattie Kidder at number two and classmate Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) defeated Mattie Lubben 7-6, 6-3 at number six.
 
Bethel took all three doubles matches. Maggie Rierman and Kidder bested juniors Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) and Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) 8-6 at number one. Timm and sophomore Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) fell 8-4 to Mackenzie Novak and Jill Weinzettel at second doubles and at number three, Bullen and classmate Maleeha Chowdhury (Rock Canyon HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) suffered an 8-4 setback to Lubben and Sami Hindt.
 
In singles, Schaffer lost 6-4, 7-5 to Rierman at number one and Novak downed Badawi 6-3, 6-3 at number three. Weinzettel was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over freshman Faith Johnson (Harker Heights HS, Harker Heights, Texas) at number four and Choudhury fell two and four to Hindt at fifth singles.
 
AUGUSTANA 7, COE 2
 
The Vikings won two of three doubles and five of six singles matches against the Kohawks.
 
At second doubles, Badawi and Timm were 8-0 winners over Stephanie Bush and Eliza Sunderman. Johnson and classmate Leraaen Abbott (Belvidere North HS, Belvidere, Ill.) defeated Lakyn Boltz and Ella White 8-4 at number three. Schaffer and Lombardi lost 8-5 to Lauren French and Haley Resnick at number one.
 
Schaffer was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over French at first singles and Timm defeated Resnick 6-1, 6-0 at number two. Badawi was a 6-2, 6-2 third singles winner over Bush. At number five, Bullen won one and three over Boltz and Choudhury downed White 6-2, 6-0 at number six. Freshmen Margaret Chadick (Plainfield North HS, Plainfield, Ill.) dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Sunderman at number four.
