Augustana falls to Birmingham-Southern

Freshman Annie Timm was a winner at second singles and second doubles
Friday, but Augustana fell 7-2 to Birmingham-Southern in Orlando, Florida.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Augustana suffered just its second loss in 15 dual meets this season when Birmingham-Southern handled the Vikings by a score of 7-2 in Florida on Friday. The Vikings return home and will host Gustavus Adolphus and Wisconsin-Whitewater at Augustana's Lower Campus Courts on Saturday, March 10 at 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
 
Wins for Coach Jon Miedema's outfit came at second singles and second doubles, with freshman Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) coming through at both spots. In doubles, she teamed with sophomore Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) to defeat Virginia Hammond and Isabella Wisener 8-5. In singles, Timm scored a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Wisener.
 
Panthers Carlee Petro and Ayssa Yager were 8-1 winner over juniors Caitlin Schaffer (Kenwood Academy, Chicago, Ill.) and Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) at first doubles and freshmen Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) and Faith Johnson (Harker Heights HS, Harker Heights, Texas) fell 8-5 to Alana Owens and Lexie Dillard at number three.
 
Petro defeated Schaffer 6-2, 6-4 at first doubles and Badawi dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Yager at number three. Birmingham-Southern's Virginia Hammond downed freshman Maleeha Chowdhury (Rock Canyon HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) 6-1, 6-2 at fourth singles. At number five, Emily Enoch bested Bullen 6-4, 6-3. At sixth singles, freshman Margaret Chadick (Plainfield North HS, Plainfield, Ill.) battled Ashton Henderson to a third set before falling 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
