In men's swimming Vikings split final dual meet of the season with win over North Central and loss to Wheaton

Sophomore Adam Smith was a double winner (200 butterfly & 400 individual
medley) in Augustana's double dual against North Central and Wheaton on 
Saturday, February 3 in Wheaton, Illinois.

WHEATON, Ill. – Augustana split a pair of dual meets on Saturday, February 3 in Wheaton, Illinois. Using the action as the final competition before the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships on February 15-17 in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, the Vikings defeated North Central 186-54 but lost to host Wheaton by a narrow 129-123 margin. With the results on Saturday head coach Dan Lloyd's charges end the season with a 5-2 dual meet record.
 
Augustana won six events in the meet and produced a pair of double winners. Sophomore Adam Smith (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) took the 200 butterfly in 2:14.01 and the 400 individual medley in 4:39.49.
 
Junior Jared Ekberg (Rockford Christian HS, Rockford, Ill.) took the 100 freestyle in :48.12 and the 100 backstroke in :51.97. He was also second in the 100 butterfly (:54.23) and swam the anchor leg on the third place 200 freestyle relay that clocked a time of 1:28.67. He was joined on that 200 freestyle relay by junior Bryan Haage (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.), freshman Jeremy Wolf (Woodstock HS, Woodstock, Ill.) and sophomore Souhail Rhafari (Rabat, Morocco).
 
Rhafari won the 200 breaststroke in 2:22.78 and was fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.18). Haage placed second in the 200 freestyle (1:48.22), second in the 100 freestyle (:49.54) and third in the 100 butterfly (:54.53). Wolf was fourth in the 50 freestyle (:22.62) and fourth in the 100 backstroke (:56.66).
 
Sophomore Connor Bullard (Rockford Auburn HS, Loves Park, Ill.) led a one-two-three sweep in the 500 freestyle with a winning time of 5:08.07. Freshman Jason Palmer (Vernon Hills HS, Libertyville, Ill.) took second in 5:47.53 and sophomore John McDonaugh (Glenbrook North HS, Northbrook, Ill.) was third in 5:52.99. Bullard also took second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:49.96. Senior Chad Populorum (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) was third in the 400 individual medley (5:15.88).
 
Freshman Charles Young (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) placed second in the 200 backstroke in 2:06.44 and was fifth in the 100 backstroke in :58.33. Junior Anthony Santangelo (St. Andrews Episcopal, Brandon, Miss.) finished second in the 200 butterfly in 2:24.80.
 
Senior Miguel Rodriguez (Rockford Boylan Catholic HS, Rockford, Ill.) was third in the 100 freestyle (:49.78) and fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:54.48). Sophomore Greg Roskowic (Rockford East HS, Rockford, Ill.) took third in the 100 backstroke in :56.59 and fourth in the 200 backstroke in 2:11.13.
 
Senior Chris Wilson (Taunton, Bradford-on-Tone, United Kingdom) was fourth in the 1000 freestyle in 11:42.75. Senior Brandon Marcy (Riverton HS, Riverton, Ill.) took fourth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:38.89. Sophomore Tito Quinones (LaVista HS, Papillion, Neb.) finished fourth in the 100 butterfly (:56.50).
 
Sophomore Ben Peinsipp (St. Viator HS, Lombard, Ill.) finished fifth in both the 50 freestyle (:22.81) and 100 freestyle (:50.16). Sophomore Zach Ogden (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.08) and freshman Brett Keefe (Rockford Christian HS, Machesney Park, Ill.) was fifth in the 100 butterfly (:56.70).
