Adarios Jones was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the North Central
Invitational on Saturday, December 8 after he won the 285 pound weight class.
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Junior
Adarios Jones (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) put on an impressive show at the North Central Invitational on Saturday, December 8 in Naperville, Illinois. He cruised through the 285 pound weight class and was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the end of the tournament.
Augustana placed eighth in the 14 team tournament with 57 points. Host North Central was the winner with 163 points while Olivet took second (118.5) and Concordia was third (109). Wisconsin-LaCrosse placed fourth with 92 points and Adrian took fifth with 65. Alma was sixth (62.5), Chicago placed seventh (59.5) and the Vikings were eighth (57). Wabash (51.5), Milwaukee School of Engineering (50), Dubuque (46.5), Trine (25), MacMurray (21.5) and Wheaton (15) rounded out the field.
Jones was unstoppable as he ran his record to a perfect 13-0 on the season. He opened the tournament with a 20-4 technical fall over Donald Moses of Adrian and followed that with a 20-3 technical fall over Jacob Garrett of Trine. He pinned Patrick Mulkerin of Chicago at 6:41 in the semi-final and then scored a 19-9 major decision against Trevor Piggott in the championship match.
Sophomore
Daniel Terronez (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) took second at 149 pounds with a 4-1 record on the day. In his first match he scored a 16-3 major decision against Jacob Stephenson of Wabash and then won a narrow 5-4 bout with Ty Johnson of Concordia. In the quarter finals he picked up a 5-1 victory against Hunter Murphy of Olivet and advanced to the final with a 3-2 win over Maguire Pecci of Chicago. In the championship match at 149 he fell to Drew Mandell of Olivet 12-8. Terronez is now 12-6 on the season.
The Vikings had a pair of place winners at 141 pounds as senior
Travis Pulse (Davenport Assumption HS, Milan, Ill.) placed third and senior
Dale Charlier (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) was fifth.
Pulse defeated Robert Nowik of Adrian 12-2 and Mason Priest of Alma 16-3 before running into Marc Fleenor of North Central in the semi-finals. He lost that match 7-4 but bounced back to defeat Dominic Paterra of Adrian 9-4 for third place.
Charlier won his first match 8-3 over Andrew Castaneda of Olivet before running into eventual champion Brendan Ladd of Alma and losing 9-1. He bounced back with a pin over Vincent Rink of North Central at 5:00 and then picked up another fall, this time at 2:08 of his match against Sam Russell of Wabash. He won his fifth place match on a medical forfeit over Andre Bourlier of Olivet.

Tony Willaert will be in action next on Friday, December 14 with a dual meet against Cornell in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
