STERLING, Ill. – Augustana cruised to a 9-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin tennis victory over Carroll on Sunday, October 7 at the Westwood Tennis Club in Sterling, Illinois. The Vikings stayed undefeated with the win and are now 7-0 overall and 6-0 in league action while Carroll falls to 3-6 and 1-5.

This match was moved from the Lower Campus Courts on the Augustana campus to the Westwood Sports Complex in Sterling, Illinois because of rain in the Quad Cities over the weekend. The change of venue clearly didn't bother Head Coach Jon Miedema's team.

In the doubles portion of the match the Vikings only gave up four points total and that came at number one where senior Caitlyn Schaffer (Kenwood HS, Chicago, Ill.) and Madeline Lombardi (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) defeated Grace Krueger and Shanna Mogden 8-4.

The other two doubles matches were both won 8-0 by Augustana. Sophomore Annie Timm (Crystal Lake Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.)  and junior Zeana Badawi (Hinsdale Central HS, Burr Ridge, Ill.) beat Lora Leach and Allison Krusa 8-0 at number two. The number three team of sophomores Leraaen Abbott and Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) shut out Jenna Boeck and Shana Klenk 8-0.

Miedema juggled his lineup a bit in singles and Timm moved into the number one singles spot and she responded with a 6-2; 6-2 win over Krueger. Badawi beat Mogden 6-3; 6-0 at number two singles. Lombardi won at number three singles over Leach by a score of 6-4; 6-2.

Sophomore Maleeha Chowdhury (Rock Canyon HS, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) picked up a 6-1; 6-2 win over Krusa at number four and sophomore Kalli Majewski (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) beat Vanessa Ignatew 6-0; 6-0 at number five. The number six match went to Bullen by a score of 6-0; 6-0 over Boeck.

Augustana will be in action again on Wednesday, October 10 against CCIW foe Elmhurst at the Lower Campus Courts at 4:00 p.m.
