Senior Bryan Haage won the 200 individual medley on Friday, October
5 in the season-opening dual meet with St. Ambrose.
DAVENPORT, Iowa – In the earliest competition ever for Augustana swimming & diving, the Vikings fell to St. Ambrose by a score of 127-95 on Friday, October 5 at Davenport Central High School. Head coach
Dan Lloyd's team won six events in the meet.
There were two individual double winners for the Vikings as senior
Jared Ekberg (Rockford Christian HS, Rockford, Ill.) took two swimming events and junior
Tom Pham (Westwood Baptist, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) claimed both diving events.
Ekberg won the 50 freestyle in :22.23 and 100 backstroke in :53.22. He also handled the lead-off leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay which clocked a time of 3:17.74. He was joined on that unit by sophomore
Jeremy Wolf (Woodstock HS, Woodstock, Ill.), junior
Souhail Rhafiri (Rabat, Morocco) and senior
Bryan Haage (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.). Pham claimed the one meter diving with 112.60 points and the three meter with 83.75 points.
Haage accounted for the other victory for Augustana when he won the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:00.40. He also placed second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.74.
Wolf took second in the 200 freestyle (1:52.52) and the 100 freestyle (:49.92). Rhafiri swam the second leg on the second place 200 medley relay team that took second in 1:43.60. Freshman
Aidan McConkey (Olympia HS, Windemere, Fla.) took care of the leadoff leg on that relay while senior
Anthony Santangelo (St. Andrews Episcopal HS, Brandon, Miss.) and senior
Luke Herron (Vail Christian HS, Edwards, Colo.) swam third and anchor respectively. McConkey took third in the 100 backstroke in :57.29 and Santangelo was third in the 100 butterfly (:59.84). Sophomore
Charles Young (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) placed third in the 1000 freestyle (12:10.03) and the 500 freestyle (5:53.92).
Augustana will be in action again on Saturday, October 27 with a home dual meet in the Carver Center against Millikin and Knox beginning at 1:00 p.m.
