Freshman Isabelle Seten won two individual events and swam on a
winning relay Saturday, as Augustana defeated Millikin and Knox
at the Carver Center Pool.
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Coach
Dan Lloyd's collection of outstanding freshmen helped his Augustana women post decisive wins over Millikin and Knox Saturday at the Carver Pool. The Vikings downed the Big Blue 158-58 and doused the Prairie Fire 178-34. Lloyd's bunch is now 3-0 on the young season, with a dual meet at Monmouth next up on Friday, November 16.
A pair of freshmen,
Isabelle Seten (Centennial HS, Champaign, Ill.) and
Alicia Garcia (Seminole HS, Lake Mary, Fla.) won two individual events apiece. Seten captured the 50 freestyle in :25.10 and the 100 free in :55.71, while Garcia won the 200 (2:01.17) and 500 (5:33.79) freestyles.
Seten and Garcia each swam on a winning relay as well. Seten anchored Augustana's 200 medley relay, which won in 1:51.98. Three classmates—
Aviana Zahara (Pleasant Valley HS, Moline, Ill.),
Madelynn Marunde (Belvidere North HS, Belvidere, Ill.) and
Lauren Raike (Alamo Heights HS, San Antonio, Texas)—preceded her. Garcia handled the second leg of the all-freshman 200 free relay. Zahara led off, with Raike and Marunde, respectively, following Garcia. They won in a time of 1:42.41.
Other Viking individual winners included Marunde (11:04.51) in the 1000 freestyle, Raike (2:12.86) in the 200 individual medley, Zahara (1:00.85) in the 100 backstroke and seniors
Mia Polinski (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) with a 1:14.57 in the 100 breaststroke and
Ashley Comeau (Romeoville HS, Romeoville, Ill.) with a score of 137.20 in one-meter diving.
Lloyd's crew swept the top three spots in the 200 individual medley—where Polinski and junior
Gabrielle Ainsworth (Hononegah HS, South Beloit, Ill.) finished second and third behind Raike with respective times of 2:22.65 and 2:24.58—and the 100 breaststroke—with freshman
Cameran Frank (Hinsdale South HS, Willowbrook, Ill.) and junior
Chelsea Brandt (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) swimming 1:17.75 and 1:20.21 to finish second and third, respectively, behind Polinski.
Senior
Victoria Frank (Hinsdale South HS, Willowbrook, Ill.) swam a 2:11.03 to finish second in the 200 free and she took third in 100 butterfly (1:09.78), one spot behind Ainsworth (1:04.03). Senior
Rachel Heah (Convent Green Lane HS, Penang, Malaysia) also logged a second-place finish with a 1:05.29 in the 100 backstroke. Freshman
Emma Gannaway (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) was second in the one-meter diving, scoring 130.10.
Junior
Grace O'Shea (Sacred Heart Griffin HS, Springfield, Ill.) placed third in the 1000 (12:15.81) and 500 (5:51.43) freestyles.
