Viking men down Knox and Millikin

Senior Jared Ekberg was a winner in two individual events and a relay
Saturday as Augustana defeated Millikin and Knox at the Carver Pool.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana men's swimming & diving squad came away a convincing winner Saturday in its double dual meets with Millikin and Knox at the Carver Pool. Coach Dan Lloyd's squad was a 142-58 winner over Millikin and swamped Knox by a score of 163-15. The Vikings improved to 2-1 on the year heading into a dual meet at Monmouth on Friday, November 16 at 5:00 p.m.
 
Seniors Jared Ekberg (Rockford Christian HS, Rockford, Ill.) and Bryan Haage (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) were double winners for Lloyd in individual events. Ekberg captured the 50 freestyle in :22.27 and the 100 backstroke in :52.13. Haage won 100 butterfly in :55.77 and the 200 freestyle in 1:49.66.
 
Other individual winning efforts for Augustana included Zach Ogden's (United Township HS, Silvis, Ill.) 2:12.26 in the 200 individual medley, Jeremy Wolf's (Woodstock HS, Woodstock, Ill.) :49.51 in the 100 freestyle, Charles Young's (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) 5:20.90 in the 500 freestyle, Brett Keefe's (Rockford Christian HS, Machesney Park, Ill.) 1:02.44 in the 100 breaststroke and Tom Pham's (Westwood Baptist, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) score of 141.65 in the one-meter diving.
 
Viking quartets won the 200 medley (1:43.07) and 200 freestyle (1:28.59) relays as well. The medley team was made up of Young, Keefe, Anthony Santangelo (St. Andrews Episcopal HS, Brandon, Miss.) and Luke Herron (Vail Christian HS, Edwards, Colo.), while the freestyle unit was comprised of Ekberg, Aidan McConkey (Olympia HS, Windemere, Fla.), Wolf and Haage.
 
Santangelo (:58.43) finished second behind Haage in the 100 butterfly. Herron (:50.22) was second to  Wolf in the 100 freestyle. Ogden (1:06.82) was second behind Keefe in the 100 breaststroke and Jason Palmer (Vernon Hills HS, Libertyville, Ill.) notched a second-place 12:28.02 in the 1000 freestyle.
 
Logging individual third-place finishes for Lloyd's bunch were Herron in the 200 freestyle (1:58.41), McConkey in the 50 free (:22.96) and 100 backstroke (:56.25) and Palmer in the 500 free (5:56.14).
