FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Augustana opened competition at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals on Thursday by dropping a pair of meets to Olivet (27-16) and Millikin 29-17. Coach Tony Willaert's squad—rated 10th in the most recent d3wrestle.com rankings—started in a hole in each dual by giving up a forfeit at 125 pounds. The Vikings fell to 1-6 in dual meets this season.
 
A trio of Augustana grapplers won two matches on the day. Senior Christos Giatras (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.), ranked second in the nation at 184 pounds by both D3wrestle and InterMat, recorded a pair of technical falls. He downed Olivet's Keagon Silverthorn 25-9 and Millikin's Evan Patterson 22-7 to improve to 11-0 on the season.
 
Sophomore Adarios Jones (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.), the nation's top-ranked 285-pounder according to InterMat and rated second by d3wrestle, scored a 20-8 major decision over Olivet's Jalen McFerrin-Pace and a 4-2 victory over Myron Hamilton of Millikin. Jones is also 11-0 this season.
 
At 141 pounds, junior Dale Charlier (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) defeated Andre Bourlier of Olivet 6-5 before posting a 10-1 major decision over Angel Rios of Millikin. With a 12-5 record this season, Charlier now ranks second on the team in wins. Senior Trace Timmons (Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa), 14-4 and ranked ninth at 174 by d3wrestle, did not compete on Thursday.
 
The Vikings' other two individual wins came from senior Brendan Gould (Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) at 133 and freshman Neil O'Shaughnessy (Niles West HS, Niles, Ill.) at 157. Gould, who didn't wrestle against Olivet, dropped down from his usual 141 and scored a 16-0 technical fall over Millikin's Carlos Garza. O'Shaughnessy recorded a 15-6 major decision over Olivet's John Leark before falling 6-1 to Millikin's Bake Tisza.
