102-57 loss to Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday, January 3 in the Carver Center.
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Facing the league-leading and 23rd-ranked Titans of Illinois Wesleyan, Augustana could ill-afford the type of shooting night that transpired in the Carver Center on Wednesday, January 3 in a 102-57 loss. The Vikings managed to hit just .290 (20-69) from the field for the game and could connect on only two of 20 three-point field goal attempts.
Illinois Wesleyan jumped out to a 23-6 lead after the first quarter and extended that margin to 45-18 at halftime as Augustana shot just .200 (7-35) in the first 20 minutes. The second half was more of the same as the Titans eventually held a 48 point lead 102-54 in the final seconds of the game before the final ended 102-57.
The Titans had five players in double figures, with reserve Kendall Sosa leading the way with 20 points. Nina Anderson, another reserve, had 16 points while Maddie Merritt scored 14, Molly McGraw added 12 and Riley Brovelli dropped in 10. Illinois Wesleyan got 64 of its 102 total points from reserves. The visitors, who are now 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, won the rebounding battle by a margin of 52-40.
Augustana was unable to put a player in double figures but junior
Sadie Roberts (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) led the way with nine points while
Clare Kramer (Prophetstown HS, Lyndon, Ill.) scored eight points and pulled down five rebounds.
Augustana is now 8-4 overall and 1-2 in the CCIW and the Vikings host Millikin at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6 in the Carver Center.
