CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Just back from a trip to Colorado over the weekend, the Augustana women's volleyball team hit the road Tuesday for a contest at Coe. Showing no ill effects from either trip, the Vikings downed the Kohawks in straight sets to move to 2-3 on the year. The hosts are now 2-3 as well.

In the opening game, Augustana  took the lead for good at 4-3 on a service ace by senior Claire Martin (Mother McAuley HS, Orland Park, Ill.) and eventually stretched it to 16-9. Coe battled back and narrowed the gap to 18-16, but consecutive kills by senior Emily Westermeyer (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) gave the Vikings some breathing room and set point in a 25-20 victory came on an ace by senior Maissie Musick (Camp Point Central HS, Camp Point, Ill.).

Westermeyer and sophomore Grace Bialobok (Homewood-Floosmoor HS, Homewood, Ill.) each had a pair of kills as Coach Kelly Bethke's outfit raced to a 9-1 lead in the second game. Once again the Kohawks rallied, tying it at 18-all on a McKenna Greenwalt kill. Sophomore Brooke Keegan (Hall HS, Ladd, Ill.) set Musick for a kill that gave Augustana the lead again and a Bialobok kill eventually provided set point in a 25-21 win.

A Westermeyer kill put the visitors up 4-3 in the third. They also won the next four points, going up 8-3 when junior McKenzie Zambrano (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) set Westermeyer for another kill. Coe wouldn't get closer than three points the rest of the way. The Vikings won 25-16, with set point coming on junior Taryn VanEarwage's (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) fourth kill of the evening.

Westermeyer led the way for Augustana with a match-high 11 kills. Bialobok added seven, with just one error in 15 attack attempts. Zambrano doled out 15 assists and Keegan 13. VanEarwage had a match-best 16 digs and a pair of aces and Martin contributed 14 digs. Musick led the Vikings in blocks with three.

On Friday, September 8, Bethke's squad will square off with 12th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater at 7:00 p.m. in the UW-Whitewater Invite.
