COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Augustana bounced back from a 25-21 first-set loss to Colorado College Friday night, winning sets two and three against the nation's ninth-ranked team by scores of 25-22 and 25-20. Unfortunately, the Vikings couldn't maintain that momentum and fell 25-11 in the fourth and 15-5 in the fifth. Coach Kelly Bethke's outfit finished play at the Colorado Classic with a 1-3 record, while the hosts finished 4-0.

The Tigers won the first three points of the match and stretched their lead to 7-1. Augustana slowly worked its way back into the game, eventually drawing to within 18-16 with Maissie Musick (Camp Point Central HS, Camp Point, Ill.) on the serve. The Vikings were still within two at 22-20, but Colorado College took three of the last four points for the win.

Augustana fell behind in the second set as well, but fought back and pulled even at 12-all on a block by Musick and senior Kaycee Kallenberger (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa). Bethke's bunch took the lead for good at 17-16 and Musick finished off the set with a kill off a McKenzie Zambrano (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) assist.

The Vikings went up 2-1 with a 25-20 win in game three. They took the lead at 4-3 on an Emily Westermeyer (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) kill and wouldn't relinquish it. The advantage reached 24-15 on a kill by sophomore Grace Bialobok (Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Homewood, Ill.), but the Tigers fought off five set points before Zambrano finally fed Bialobok for the game-winning kill.

Colorado College jumped in front 4-0 in set four and cruised to a 25-11 win. Anna Gurolnick's kill finished it off.

The Tigers were up 8-0 at the turn-around of the decisive fifth set and match point came on a Marguerite Spaethling kill.
