PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – After a five-set morning win over Hamline, Augustana took on host Wisconsin-Platteville in the afternoon Saturday and won in straight sets to hand the Pioneers just their fourth loss against nine wins this year. The victory lifted Coach
Kelly Bethke's Vikings to 6-6 on the season.
The opening game was nip-and-tuck early, with neither team leading by more than two points until a 3-0 run put Platteville up 13-10. The Pioneers still led 19-18 after a kill by Allison Jensen, but Augustana won seven of the last nine points--with six coming via UWP attack errors
--to win 25-21. A
Courtney Ward (Crystal Lake Central HS, Lakewood, Ill.) kill accounted for the other.
After dropping the first point of game two, the Vikings won the next three and led the rest of the way in a 25-18 win. Junior
Taryn VanEarwage (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) delivered four kills in the set.
Platteville took a 16-12 lead in the third set, but a
Grace Bialobok (Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Homewood, Ill.) kill and a

The Pioneers fought off two match points before a UWP attack error ended it 25-23 in favor of Augustana.
