COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Berry rolled to decisive wins in the first two sets and finished off Augustana with a 25-22 victory in the third Friday at the Colorado College Classic. Coach Kelly Bethke's Vikings drop to 0-2 on the year, while Berry—also the Vikings—improved to 1-1. On Saturday, September 2, Augustana takes on Whittier at 2:00 p.m. MDT and ninth-ranked Colorado College at 6:00 p.m. MDT.
 
A Micayla Bedoian kill gave Berry a 5-4 lead that it wouldn't relinquish in set one. Later, Carson VanCampen kills accounted for three straight Berry points and a 17-9 lead. The final four points in a 25-12 win featured kills  by three different Berry players.
 
Berry led from the get-go in game two and cruised to a 25-14 win. Christina Goforth delivered five kills.
 
A service ace by sophomore Brooke Keegan (Hall HS, Ladd, Ill.) gave Augustana a 5-4 lead—its first of the match—in set three. Keeqan later assisted on a kill by senior Emily Westermeyer (Huntley HS, Huntley, Ill.) that gave the Vikings their biggest lead at 10-7. VanCampen and Emily Hancock teamed up on a block that put Berry ahead 13-12 and it eventually extended the advantage to 17-13 before Bethke's squad battled back to tie it at 20-all on a kill by junior Taryn VanEarwage (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.). However, VanCampen's kill put her team up for good at 22-21 and match point came on a Hancock kill.
 
VanEarwage finished with 10 kills. Classmate McKenzie Zambrano (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) dished out a dozen assists, while Keegan added 10. Senior Claire Martin (Mother McAuley HS, Orland Park, Ill.) had a team-high 10 digs and classmate Maissie Musick (Camp Point Central HS, Camp Point, Ill.) was in on a team-best four blocks.
 
Hancock led Berry with 10 kills, Hannah Kate Thompson with 18 assists, Elizabeth Ragland with 15 digs and VanCampen with six blocks.
