Augustana moved to 14-9 after 5-0 win over Elmhurst
to start the 2017 CCIW Tournament.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana wasted little time in dispatching Elmhurst on Thursday, May 4 in the opening round of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's tennis tournament. The Vikings rolled past the Bluejays by a score of 5-0. With the victory, head coach Jon Miedema's charges earned a spot in the CCIW semi-final on Friday, May 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lower Campus Courts. Augustana's opponent will be Millikin, a 5-0 winner over North Central in the first match of the day.

The Vikings ripped off three straight wins in doubles to take a 3-0 lead and they were never threatened after that. Sophomore Jack Morkin (University HS, Bloomington, Ill.) and senior Nicholas Prabhakar (Rockford Lutheran HS, Belvidere, Ill.) got off the court first after an 8-3 win over Kevin Osburn and David Wilson at number three. Seniors Jonathon Elsey (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) and Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) took care of Brandon Fulmer and Grant O'Connell at number two.

The number one team of juniors Samuel Totten (University HS, Normal, Ill) and Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) beat Kyle Endicott and Jackson Lindquist 8-5 to finish the clean sweep of doubles.

Needing just two more wins to end the match, the Vikings got a 6-1; 6-0 victory from freshman Scott Daluga (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) at number six over Wilson. Woolf beat Osburn 6-1; 6-3 at number five.

Totten was ahead of Endicott 6-1 after one set at number one and Pohl won his first set 6-3 over Fulmer at number two. Morkin was in front of Lindquist 6-2 at number three. At number five singles Elsey lost his first set 3-6 to O'Connell.

Augustana is now 14-9 overall and 6-1 in the CCIW while Elmhurst falls to 2-18 and 1-6. The Vikings, who have won four in a row and nine of their last 11, have a 5-4 win over Millikin back on April 2.
