Sophomore Alex Riddle competed at number six
singles and number three doubles for the Vikings
on Tuesday, April 4 against Wheaton.
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Wheaton knocked Augustana out of first place in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's tennis standings with a 9-0 win on Tuesday, April 4 at the Lower Campus Courts. The Vikings were 3-0 in the league and 8-7 overall heading into the match but the Thunder took command during the doubles portion and never looked back.
Justin Anocona and Matt Steiner of Wheaton defeated the Vikings number one team of juniors
Eric Pohl (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) and
Samuel Totten (University HS, Normal, Ill.) by a score of 8-1. Augustana's number two team of seniors
Nicholas Prabhakar (Rockford Lutheran HS, Belvidere, Ill.) and
Connor Woolf (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) lost to Dane Paulsen and Jeremiah Yi 8-2. At number three the Viking duo of sophomore
Alex Riddle (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) and freshman
Scott Daluga (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) lost 8-3 to Andrew Bristo and Josh Cheng.
The singles matches didn't go much better for the Vikings. Totten fell 6-3; 6-3 to Ancona at number one and Pohl lost 6-4; 6-3 to Paulsen at number two. Woolf fell 6-1; 6-1 at number three to Steiner and Prabhakar lost 6-0; 6-1 to Yi at number four.
The number five match saw Chang beat Daluga 6-2; 6-2 and Riddle fell 6-2; 6-1 at number six to Andrew Torok.
Augustana's next match will be Sunday, April 9 at home against Wisconsin-LaCrosse with the first serve set for 9:00 a.m.
